More pictures of the placemats and table runner.   Tried to set up part of it to show off the setting.  It does turn out quite nice..

The finished christmas placemat!!

Saturday, September 29, 2018

I quilted the yellow blocks with a round feather pattern and then finished up the quilting with an even foot for straight line stitching.

I have added the insert for the cutlery on the bottom right.  You cannot really see it because I camouflage it with the same fabric.. :-)

Christmas Placemats

I found this fabric...at least 6m of it in the cupboard!!!  So decided to make placemats out of it!!!  Will also make an insert to put cutlery.

This is the finished top..quilted feathers on the border.

I think this quilting design is better than the one I did earlier.  It brings out the star pattern and you can actually see the whole block.

Thursday, September 13, 2018

I started to quilt one of the blocks and didn't like the outcome.  Had to rip out all the stitches.  Went through Pinterest and came upon a very nice quilting design so will follow it..

Audrey's quilt

This quilt was made by four of us.  It's made with one pack of 10" layer cake with the plain fabric which we bought in metres and cut to 10" squares.   We worked like a production line.  One of us would cut, another one sew and so forth..  It was fun..

My task now is to quilt....

All done...after washing... hung it out to dry!!!

Thursday, September 6, 2018

I used multi-coloured thread to quilt the pattern.  The thread is almost the same colour as the printed fabric.   It is very fast for the machine to do the quilting stitches but like  I said earlier the pain is putting the hoop on!!  After doing all the embroidery quilting, I just did ditch stitching along the blocks.

Wednesday, September 5, 2018

I decided to use the embroidery machine to quilt the squares. The most difficult thing about using the embroidery machine is putting the hoop on!  It took a lot of time and also my fingers hurt just to tighten the hoop...  I think it took less time for the machine to quilt the pattern!!!!

Basting it on the table with safety pins...

Friday, July 13, 2018

Added the same beige fabric for the border.  For some reason, I like quilts with very uniform colour coordination!!

I have another set of the same layer cake.  Thinking of the next project but don't know what pattern yet....  Time to browse the internet for inspirations!!!

Added a dark print to bring out the colour.  Will use the same beige print for the border.  I like the colour combination.

Wednesday, June 20, 2018

I put all the blocks with the colours all mixed up in different layout and decided that this is the best combination.  I guess it is up to the individual's liking for certain colours.  There is no wrong or right when it comes to making a choice of colour theme.. Individual preference :-)

Putting 2 blocks side by side..

Tuesday, June 5, 2018

This block is all done.. ironed, cut, sew..... I forgot to mention in my last blog that I bought a turntable cutting mat.  If you look at the block now, it is sitting on the turntable.  With this turntable mat, it is fast and easy to cut diagonals and verticals!! Worth it if you have lots of projects with this kind of cutting style!

Thursday, May 31, 2018

Cut half vertically and then half again horizontally.  A lot of cutting and pressing and sewing after this!!  But it's fun watching how the pattern come together.

Then just swap the light n dark solid print around. Do that for the other 3 half triangle blocks...

Sunday, May 27, 2018

This is a very easy pattern.  All we need to do is to sew the dark and light fabrics right sides together around the 4 edges of the 10 x 10 fabrics.  Then cut diagonally both ways.

Half and half

I was watching the tutorial by Missouri Star Quilt Company and it seemed easy enough a quilt to make using layer cakes.

Actually, I have two sets of the same layer cake fabric which I had intended to make a king size quilt.  Thinking somebody's birthday is around the corner, I decided to make a blanket out of one set of the layer cake.

The other plain colour fabric, I chose a printed creamy colour from my fabric stash..:-)

I finished quilting this quilt and passed it to my sister.  She did the binding and added a label which I embroidered too.

I can't remember if I have a picture of the embroidery label... need to do a search in the photo gallery!!

After ditch quilting, I decided that the blocks look very plain so I just added some quilting on it...

For the sashing, I did feather quilting... and also the outer border bigger  feather quilting.....hahhahahah

Tuesday, April 24, 2018

This is the first time I am doing quilting on my new baby, DX7.  Got this machine for Christmas!!  It was either an iPhone X or this... the answer was easy....hahhahahaha

With this sewing machine, the standard stitch is 2.4.  I had to tweak it to 1.8 or 1.6   I fancy the factory setting is a bit too wide for my liking.  Stitches are a bit wonky so I had to play with the top tension to get what I want.  Other than that, it is  very good machine!!

I decided to do ditch quilting with the even foot.  It is very fast n very easy with the starting reverse stitch and the ending stitch all done by the machine.  No messy threads!!

Min's Quilt

This is Min and Adam's quilt.  My sister, Adeline, pieced it all together.  My job is just to quilt it!!

I put the quilt on the table top and basted it with lots and lots of safety pins.  Just have to make sure there are no pluckers here and there.

Decided to do very simple quilting on the quilt...

Wednesday, April 18, 2018

Wow... I didn't realise how long ago was my last post!!  Have been so busy with so many things..  I will try to recall what I have done so far!!

I put together this quilt like this and I have no idea where it is heading...most probably it will go into my UFO bin for a while...The quilt looked like the blocks have a 2D effect... hahahahaha or I made a mistake in piecing them!!!

Piecing time.....Just have to get all the light n dark colours to coordinate..sometimes the colours just don't match up!! So need some patience to get it right!!

Sunday, January 14, 2018

Sew the strips together then cut it diagonally.  This is one also one of the most easy block to piece.

Tuesday, January 2, 2018

Sew all the strips together.  Light and dark together.  Later will need to iron and sew again.
